COOKIE, COOKIE, COOKIE

Thursday was Mr. B's half birthday....for those with summer birthdays they are ALMOST as important as the actual day....take it from me, I know!!  We wanted to celebrate with a cake and he LOVES Oreo cookies.....so this was PERFECT!!!

All sorts of DELICIOUSNESS!!

Mr. B shrieked cookie, cookie, cookie the entire way through the store to pay for it and then got extremely irate when I put it in the front seat and him in his carseat in the back. I also had to endure his screaming the WHOLE way home....do not show a youngster his favorite food and then take it away from him!!

HMMMM...which one?

Oh I got one!!

At first he wasn't sure what to think of the frosting...he just wanted the Oreos.

MMMM...cookies!!

DO NOT TOUCH MY PIECE!!!!

Sing it one more time!!

He then decided he needed to find a BETTER spot while we were not paying attention....when will Casey we ever learn!

Food on the go.
It was bath time soon after he had finished devouring his chocolaty goody.

HAPPY 18 MONTH BIRTHDAY BUBBA!!!

Sled ride

One afternoon Mr. B frolicked in the little snow we had at the time. We had a sled in the basement just waiting to get put to good use....Thanks again Shannon!! He loved us pulling him around the yard and was hollering the entire ride.

What is that white stuff?!?!

My very own chariot

OOPS...Mommy dropped her camera in the snow :(

A little hard to walk here people

Faster Daddy!!

Now that I have gotten out...Do you want a ride, Mommy?

I don't want to work....just do the fun stuff!!

Just taking a winter stroll

Mr. B's grandparents and great grandparents would love to share what they have received this year.  We are just hoping to get more so we can delight in building a snowman...we have never had enough yet!

The birth story of Mr. B

This post is mostly so I will remember the events surrounding the birth of Mr. B because you know  I am "EXCEPTIONAL" at working on his baby book!  This  WILL BE LONG and there may be moments of TMI...SO if you would be offended at that point those parts were not for you but for me!   HERE WE GO.....

Tuesday, July 20th I wrote on my Facebook wall "I have everything ready so BoB (Baby of Bourkes') can come anytime now."  Casey replied "Not until I have the outside of the house painted."  I guess the important things first!

Wednesday, July 21st I made a doctor's appointment because I thought I had another infection and wanted to have it cleared up. No infection but it was my first time being "checked"...not pleasant and I was still at ZERO!! I then cancelled the appointment I was really looking forward to on Friday... I had heard the doctor I was scheduled with was really good looking but I wasn't going to be able to witness him myself now : (   OH WELL...maybe for kid #2!!

Friday July 23rd I made the comment to my boss Mark “Unless something DRASTICALLY CHANGES...I'll see you Monday!"  He chuckled...Okay have a nice weekend!

Saturday July 24th my sister came down and we just hung out all day inside....you know because I hate hot weather and sweating!! Casey was painting in the summer heat.

Sunday July 25th  Hanni and I went to brunch about 10:00am at Mimi's Cafe.  I put on a pair of capris that I had worn my entire pregnancy EXCEPT that day I couldn't get them to button....okay go to a different outfit. After enjoying a great meal we walked around the mall then went home to lounge around in the air conditioning!!  About 2 pm Casey came in to announce he was done painting and Hanni decided to hit the road.  We had wanted a new TV for the bedroom....you know so "I" could relax in our room with the baby.  We went to Target and got one and a few other things we needed. Casey was hungry so we went to BWW where I had a Parmesan Garlic chicken sandwich and fries....nothing too spicy!!  When we arrive home I ask him if he wanted to set up the new TV..." I'll do it tomorrow after I mow".  Casey then called to get us setup with cable...you know once again since "I" will be home with the baby for six weeks or more. They were scheduled to come on Wednesday to install it. About 5 pm Casey went and got us some Dairy Queen....I didn't finish mine and he told me to throw it away...WHY? I thought...I'll just eat it after work on Monday.

I was feeling tired and went to bed about 9pm and Casey about 10:30 pm.  At 11:00 pm I woke up and was all wet...went to the bathroom and it kept going after I "thought" I was done.  I calmly walked into the bedroom and the following conversation took place.

K: Casey, I think we need to go my water just broke.
C: mumbling...okay
K: Casey we need to go.
C: YOU MEAN RIGHT NOW!!!....he was panicked at this time
K:  It's not an emergency but soon.

On our way to have a baby...see the TV that wasn't set up yet??!?!

While I was calling the doctor he grabbed all my stuff that I have had packed for about month and half.  On the way to the hospital the entrance we would need to take to get on the interstate was closed for overnight repairs.  He continues up the street...where he started to turn.  I told him we couldn't take that one as we would then be going the WRONG direction...to just go up and around to get on at a different ramp.  As we were pulling onto Interstate 235 I heard the song we had as our first dance at our wedding...I thought it was perfect...starting a new chapter of our life....Casey not so much...I think he had other things on his mind at the time!

Arriving at the hospital I was SO GLAD that I made us take a tour of the place and knew where to go and what to do....I get VERY ANXIOUS about things unfamiliar to me and that was not a time I wanted to be worried.  We checked in at the front desk. We went to the little triage room and it was confirmed....I WAS STAYING TO HAVE A BABY!!!  The wonderful nurse (WN) asked if I could feel any contractions...nope just my stuffy nose and dry eyes. I and all my luggage were moved to my room. I was told to use the restroom and get settled for the evening.  When she came back I told her that the toilet didn't flush....they would have to move me to a new room.  I believe that is where it all went down hill.

It was now after midnight, the 26th was going to start in a labor and delivery room. WN asked me if I wanted to walk...we went to 6 weeks of childbirth classes and we were educated folks... it may take awhile... so I thought I might try to take a snooze first. I asked her who the doctor would be in the morning since I was pretty sure I wouldn't have the one on call that night.... it was going to be one of the FEW doctors I didn't care for ONE BIT!!!  Of all the wonderful doctors at that practice why did it have to be him, Dr. Not Good Bedside Manner (DNGBM)? My heart sank and I prayed he would have little interaction with me then. Casey posted on his facebook wall ”it's going to be a long night"....thank goodness not many caught his drift.  He also emailed his bosses to let them know that he wasn't going to be in right away in the morning but might make it in that afternoon.  Casey was able to rest a little while I for some reason could not get comfortable even though they gave me some pain medicine in my IV. When she came in she asked how I was doing...Casey woke up answering he felt good...we all had a good laugh!!

By 6 am I was dilated to 3cm and asked if I wanted an epidural about 8 am, I said no...as I had learned in class you have to be at least 5 cm to get one.  WN knew I did want one at some point and kept asking me why I was waiting. I told her and DNGBM what we learned from the instructor at allour classes....you have to go through all the stages of labor BS before you get the good stuff.  They enlightened me that I could have it at anytime and now would be perfectly fine.  I was all about it at that time as the contractions were getting a little more painful but nothing I couldn't have handled at the time.  At that point Casey and I looked at each other like....WHY DID WE WASTE OUR TIME AT CLASSES!!  Lesson learned and another class we attended will not be relevant either in the next couple of days.

The anesthesia was a welcome relief!  Casey called my supervisor Deb and let her know I was admitted and should be having the baby that day. My phone started to ring right after and since people were in the room Casey hung up on my dad since he didn't know how my phone worked and just shut it off so we could get the show on the road. He had to make a phone call to a company that does gutters...they asked if we wanted an estimate...not necessary just get them done.  Priorities people... wife in labor- do home improvements!! Then he shut his phone off...so he could "be in the moment" because in his mind it wouldn't be long now anyway... one thing he didn't retain from said classes... as it could take over 12-14 hours. Sweet Nurse (SN) filled me in that I went from 3cm-9cm by 10 am.  About 10:30 am SN had Casey sign some papers that would allow them to do a c-section if need be.....looking back I think she knew things weren't going the way they should for a planned normal delivery....even though our only ideal scenario was to have a baby and bring him home!! All morning I had to switch positions because they would lose his heartbeat and I would move until they found it again....what a task that was for this big mama!! He was never in any danger though.  I started to push about 11 am and was thinking this is great we will have a baby before Sharon (Casey's cousin that works downtown that I really like) goes home at 3pm. She could be our first visitor since we were not going to call any of our family until after he was here...giving us at least an hour before people would be coming to visit.

I was having a hard time breathing because that silly stuffy nose and SN let me have some oxygen.  Casey had heard from his friends that he would just hang out by my head and the medical professionals and I would do the rest.... so he was surprised when he had to help hold my legs. He was also really sweet and made sure I ate tons of ice chips. SN was having to change the bed pads often and was also tending to me with warm towels.....looking back once again a clue that something was going wrong!

Through out the afternoon SN would call the head nurse to come in and offer her help or advice on what to do next. They both said I was almost there.  I had been pushing for about 3 hours and the entire time SN was telling me "keep pushing, you're doing great, he is on his way."  One time I stopped mid effort and said very seriously "are you just saying that to be nice or is something really happening down there!!"  She looked at Casey REALLY SHOCKED...I took her by surprise with that one!! She didn't know what to say...so she just continued doing her job.  I didn't really want to be that crazy gal delivering her baby but at that point I just needed the truth!

About 5pm DNGBM came in and checked me.  He explained they couldn't use any tool to get him out as BoB was still up too high and that I should have a c-section. That nurse had been lying to me but what else was she suppose to tell me when her job is to get me to deliver that baby? I don't hold it against her!! DNGBM looked at me and took my hand and said this isn't what you had planned but it is what is best at this time. I was just happy something was finally going to happen. I was so tired that I hadn't opened my eyes for over three hour and in my delusional state, crying on my side I proclaimed "I have no idea how you're going to do this because I'm so tired and in so much pain"....like I was going to have to  get up and do the surgery myself!!

They called Doctor Feel MARVELOUS (DFM) and Casey got his scrub-like outfit on.  Right before we were ready to go some how Casey turned my phone on while he was packing up our stuff because ONCE AGAIN we would be changing rooms, my dad is on the phone again...he explained that I was leaving for surgery and he would call back later....my dad was trying to still talk to him...I found out later that he really didn't hear what Casey had said. After DFM worked his magic I was on my way down the hall to the operating room. I heard them tell Casey you wait out here and we will come get you when we are ready. While he was chilling and I found out later he was trying to peek in the window...concerned that they wouldn't let him in there....OF COURSE THEY WOULD AND DID, I was laughing with DFM...that dude was HILARIOUS!! He proceeded to ask me if this baby had a name and I told him what we had picked out. When they finally let Casey in I was giggling...he was wondering what happened to the wife he left a couple of minutes ago but then I got upset because I told someone the name. We had kept it a secret the entire time...well except Grandma D because I had to get another opinion and now DFM was the first to know!!  The whole process went very fast and they announced IT'S A BOY!!!  I didn't hear him cry at first but then he made the sweet little sounds.  I was so proud at the moment and so was Casey...we were FINALLY PARENTS!!!

Introducing...

"Bubba" T Bourke
July 26th, 2010
6:06 pm
6 pounds 15 ounces
20 inches long

When they told me that he weighed 6 pounds....I was thinking to myself I'm not having a 6 pound baby, I weighed over 8 pounds, Casey weighed over 8 pounds but then I remembered he was born 10 days early...if he came when he was supposed to in August he could have been in that range.

A proud daddy!!

After they had Mr. B out DNGBM told Casey that he was stuck and would not have come out on his own....I wish they could have found that out earlier in the day!! While they were putting me back together I heard them counting like they did before surgery...apparently there was some confusion on if there was 22 of something because when they counted at the end there was 23!!  They went back and forth about it but I will guarantee you I didn't bring one in so it must have been the latter.  As they were pushing me to my humble abode for the next couple of days....I was thinking to myself where are we going...the nice rooms are the other direction!!  It ended up being better in the "older" wing of the floor as not many people were over there so it was kind of private and QUIET!!  We made our phone calls and told everyone the fantastic news...one being the gutter people to tell them to go ahead and that it was a boy. My boss and coworkers were worried as they thought I would have had my baby before closing time....well that is what I had envisioned also!! I found out later that my sister had called my office right at 5 after Casey hung up my phone the second time to figure out what was going on....the gal that answered the phone at work was confused because she assumed we would have told my family when we were going in....it was explained to the coworker that we were waiting until after to call people.  Hanni was then told I wasn't in today...she figured it out!!

Two became three in LOVE

We also forewarned people that we didn't want visitors until after 10 am on Tuesday. Which worked out wonderful as we had time to get used to being parents and meet with doctors. After Grandma B left in the morning my friend Janet stayed with me and B Man so Casey could finish some things at work.  That evening we had many eager family members ready to meet Mr. B.

Grandma B could hardly wait to hold her grandson!

"Aunt" Janet was so excited to meeet Mr. B and so nice to stay for awhile

Wednesday Casey went home to take a shower, set up the new TV and wait for the cable guy...remember he was coming that day. We decide to take Mr. B back to the nursery while he was gone so I could get some much needed sleep....and did I ever take a nap!!  When I woke up I ate some lunch and finally put pictures on facebook as our families had been there by then....we didn't want those not as close to us to see him before they got to meet Mr. B.  We had a "sending baby home" class that afternoon down the hall that I waddled to by myself and Casey made it just as it was beginning. More visitors that evening.

Grandma Sandi singing to calm him

Aunt Hanni and her favorite nephew

Thursday we prepared to go home.  We left cookies and a thank you note for all the great nurses that helped us with our little Mr. B while we were there... all the nurses joked that they know our little guy because he was the baby with tons of blonde hair...not peach fuzz that is the norm.  After a stop at Casey's office to show off our cutie...it was home to begin the rest of our lives with our new addition.

Just plain tuckered out

On our way home...as a family!!

I was so thankful Casey decided to take the whole week off and not just a couple of days to be with us. He was very helpful to me....he loved the extra snuggle time with his son also!!

We are so blessed to have Mr. B in our world!!

First snow of 2012

Outside his daycare this morning...see barely there!!

As Mr. B and I were headed out the door this morning, he looked at the very light dusting of snow and said UH-OH!!  So...he may not share the same enthusiasm for the white stuff as his mother. Still not enough to play in but I guess beggars can't be choosers!!

POTS AND PANS

We have a house full of toys and Mr. B wants to play with old kitchen utensils. He pulls things out of the cabinet and hauls them all over the house. This day it was just a few to the family room but sometimes I see a couple of pans have made their way back to his room. Maybe he can take over on the days his daddy doesn't want to cook!

Put a lid on it

What can I put in here?

Not quite done yet

Stir, stir, stir

Who knows...someday he may be a famous chef!!

Christmas

We decided this year we would not spend the night away from home. Christmas Eve we drove to Cedar Falls to spend the day with my relatives.  Mr. B was excited to get to the hotel so he could escape the car to run around and go swimming with his cousin.... and see Grandma and Grandpa too!!

Driver In Training

I LOVE the water!!

This is FUN!!
After spending OVER an hour swimming and LESS than that napping, we were off to get Great Grandma and Grandpa to go to church. Mr. B did great sitting with us....I loved being able to listen to the message of the Christmas Service as a family!!  Back at G&G's we had dinner and chatted with the extended clan before leaving around 8:30 pm.

Happy Family

I'm so handsome

Are you going to eat that?

What is this Uncle Jeff?

Christmas morning Casey and I were both up before 5:30 am waiting for B Man to wake up to see what "The Big Guy" brought him.  He FINALLY woke up at 7:45! I hope next year he isn't up TOO EARLY waiting for us.

We did not give him many gifts because he has more then he can ever play with from other people and Santa only brings one present and stockings to our house. We recorded his reaction to his main present.

Please note: I  have no idea who that gal is talking because I DO NOT SOUND THAT CRAZY!!!
This will go so FAST

HOORAY...SNACKS!!

The crockpot he didn't know he wanted

Yes folks....Casey made him unwrap his own Elf on a Shelf

Enough with the photos mom...let me ride!!

On the road again

Thank you for the nice table G&G and Aunt Hanni and Gabe

After playing for awhile it was time to head to Casey's side for a fun filled day. We had a great time hanging out, snuggling babies, and my favorite....GRAZING on all the munchies!! Mr. B must be a good kid because we came home with a VERY FULL car that night.

Just what I wanted...thanks Grandma B

Mr. B seemed confused....we think he knew it was his daddy.

The newest member of the family

We had a wonderful Christmas!!!
